Use Case: AHTS Fuel Consumption Analysis 🚢
Our Account Management Team recently uncovered a higher-than-expected fuel consumption on one of our AHTS vessels. We initiated a detailed investigation using Marinsights, our fleet performance solution to understand why.
Here’s what we found:
📅Period 1: High fuel consumption despite 59% Idle Time
- Average Daily Consumption: 5.0 m³
- Fuel Overrun: 34% above estimated consumption
- Total Excess Fuel: 38 m³, costing an extra 💲30,400
➡️ Despite low activity levels, the excessive fuel consumption suggested potential issues with the vessel’s hull condition.
📅 Period 2: Lower Consumption despite 43% Idle Time
- Average Daily Consumption: 4.6 m³
- Operational Increase: +8% operations, +7% transit
- Fuel Overrun: Reduced to 14% above estimated consumption
➡️ Our hypothesis that poor hull condition was causing increased fuel consumption was confirmed. After scheduling hull maintenance, fuel efficiency improved significantly, resulting in over 💲17,000 in savings in Period 2 compared to Period 1.
This analysis demonstrates that poor hull and engine conditions can significantly increase fuel consumption and operational costs.
